NEW DELHI: Days after the news of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt battling Stage-3 lung cancer emerged, late actor Irrfan Khan's son, Babil, shared a memory from 2018 when his father was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour.

Alongside a picture of his late father with Dutt on Instagram, the 22-year-old penned a short note, remembering every time 'Sanju Bhai' offered the family help.

Babil wrote that Dutt was one of the first few people to extend a helping hand to his family when the 'Piku' star was diagnosed with cancer. He also revealed that Dutt was at their side soon after Khan passed away this year on April 29.

The post dedicated to the friendship of Sanjay Dutt and Irrfan Khan follows after several speculations doing the rounds about the former’s health. The 'Sadak' actor had recently announced a break from work, citing health problems.

Writers must wonder ‘how do I start’, but I am not a writer so here it is; I humbly request journalists and human curiosity to ease on the speculation, the details. I know that’s your job but I also know that a sense of humanity persists in our soul, so give Sanju bhai and his family the existential space they need. Here’s a secret; Sanju Bhai was one of the first people to offer help in all and every way when my father was diagnosed, after Baba passed, Sanju bhai was again one of the very first few people that held a pillar for support. Please; I beg you, let him fight this without anxiety of media, you must remember we’re talking bout Sanju baba here, he is a tiger, a fighter, the past doesn’t define you but it sure does evolve you and I know this will be over with Sanju Baba smashing hits again.

Dubbing Dutt as a 'tiger' and a 'fighter', he also asked fans to let the actor fight the battle of his health without the constant media glare.

"Please; I beg you, let him fight this without the anxiety of media, you must remember we're talking bout Sanju baba here, he is a tiger, a fighter, the past doesn't define you but it sure does evolve you and I know this will be over with Sanju Baba smashing hits again," Babil's post concluded.

After being admitted to the city hospital for two days due to breathlessness, Dutt had announced his break from work due to his health conditions earlier this month.

Following Dutt's announcement, his wife Manyata Dutt released a cryptic statement not revealing details about his health, and urging people to not 'fall prey to speculations and unwarranted rumours'.
