Nokia Power Earbuds Lite review: Distinct pair of wireless earbuds

The earbuds get high points for not aping Apple but still offering a decent product.

With its Power Earbuds Lite, Nokia wants to make its presence felt in the budget true wireless earbuds.
GET IT FOR: Starts at Rs 3,599
HIGHLIGHT: Design

Blame it on Apple for setting off a frantic rush in the space since the AirPods. Brands can’t get enough of the category now. Joining — slightly later than expected — the true wireless party is none other than Nokia. With its Power Earbuds Lite, Nokia wants to make its presence felt in the budget true wireless earbuds. Say what you want, but Nokia does enjoy certain brand equity in the minds of consumers thanks to its ultra-reliable devices in the pre-smartphone era. The Power Earbuds Lite are a distinct pair of wireless earbuds. For starters, it’s rare to see a brand not ape Apple in any form. The earbuds have a stem-less design and are rather big. Some might find it uncomfortable because of the sheer size but they fit in really well.

The case looks different, with sharply curved edges and a solid build. The earbuds come with touch-based gestures. Single, double or triple taps can get you to play/pause a track, control volume or accept/reject calls. The gestures work seamlessly, which is a rarity in this price segment. The Nokia Power Earbuds Lite comes with a 6mm graphene driver, which to be fair isn’t the best even in this price segment. Both OnePlus and Realme’s wireless earbuds have a 10mm driver.

A 6mm driver means that Nokia earbuds deliver just above-average sound quality. It’s not to say that the audio output is inadequate — but it’s not the best part of the earbuds. For instance, the instrument separation isn’t handled as well or the bass lacks the punch. Having said that, the call quality is quite good. There was some echo, to begin with, but once the earbuds were used for a while, the call quality got better. Nokia Power Earbuds Lite offers 35 hours of battery back up, including that of the charging case.

The earbuds can last up to 5 hours easily, which is another big plus. The earbuds have a lot going for them but this is a category where competition is brutal. At Rs 3,599, the audio experience is decent but overall there’s a lot of value to be found in the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite in terms of design and battery life.
