The festive season calls for sweet indulgences. With Karwa Chauth and Diwali celebrations around the corner, desserts and sugary delicacies become a staple in almost every household. While enjoying and sharing mithais with loved ones brings us together, uncontrolled consumption can lead to sugar spikes and unwanted calorie intake, as traditional Indian desserts often contain loads of sugar, ghee, and oil. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up your favourite sweets. Mumbai-based dietician and health coach Simran Kaur recently shared a festive special shahi tukda recipe on Instagram that you can enjoy guilt-free.

As per Simran Kaur, the shahi tuikda is prepared with zero oil and sugar and yet will leave you craving for more. What’s more, it takes only 10 minutes to prepare and can be a wonderful option when guests come over last-minute during the festive season. Here’s how to prepare it at home.

Shahi tukda: Ingredients required

  • 2 multigrain or sourdough bread slices
  • 30–40 g low-fat paneer
  • 3–4 tbsp low-fat milk
  • 2 tbsp kesar milk
  • 2 tbsp zero-calorie sweetener
  • 2 tbsp Greek yoghurt (optional)
  • Chopped pistachios
  • ¼ tsp elaichi powder

Shahi tukda: How to make

To prepare the shahi tukda, first you have to cut the bread slices into halves. Then air-fry for about 8–10 minutes until they become golden-brown and crispy. After that, add the low-fat paneer, milk, and kesar milk to a blender, followed by a sprinkle of elaichi powder, zero-calorie sweetener and some Greek yoghurt.

Let the concoction blend until it becomes absolutely smooth and creamy. Once the desired texture is achieved, spread the prepared paneer-kesar mixture generously over the toasted bread, and your shahi tukda is ready.

Top off the shahi tukda with chopped pistachios to give the dessert a restaurant-like appeal and serve it chilled for a refreshing and indulgent treat that your guests can’t get enough of.
