It is highly unlikely that the world’s richest man will ever say that he does not own a home. However, when it comes to Elon Musk, anything is possible. Musk in a recent interview with TED chief Chris Anderson made an unusual statement about his life.

The 50-year-old billionaire went on to say that the does not own a home and usually crashes in at his friends’ spare bedrooms. Musk made the startling revelation during the hour-long interview that touched upon topics ranging from radical innovation to his bid to purchase Twitter.

“I don’t even own a place right now, I’m literally staying at friends’ places,” the billionaire explained to the interviewer. According to Forbes, the Tesla chief’s current estimated net worth is USD 269.5 billion.


The SpaceX boss went on to explain how he resorted to couch surfing which he found to be a convenient form of housing. “If I travel to the Bay Area, which is where most of Tesla’s engineering is, I basically rotate through friends’ spare bedrooms,” the billionaire said during the interview.
Billionaires are often associated with their opulent lifestyles and larger-than-life pursuits. And, it is only natural that billionaires such as Musk pique the interest of millions around the world.

In the interview, while responding to a question on the wealth disparity in the US between average citizens and billionaires, Musk said that it was a problematic situation. “For sure, it would be very problematic if I was spending billions of dollars a year in personal consumption, but that is not the case,” said Musk.

To the surprise of many, Musk revealed that he doesn't own a yacht or home and neither does he take vacations. However, the 50-year-old mentioned that his biggest consumption is his private jet and that if he doesn't use it then he would be left with fewer working hours.
