Motorola plans to launch 4G version of Moto E in India by May

In India, the 4G version of the Moto E would compete with the likes of Lenovo's A6000 (Rs 6,999), Yu's Yureka (Rs 8,999) and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G (Rs 9,999).

NEW DELHI: Motorola is hopeful of taking a lead in the sub-Rs 10,000 category of the 4G smartphone space in the country, as it prepares to launch the 4G variant of its popular affordable smartphone, Moto E, by May this year, a top executive said.

“We are going to sell more 4G phones in the country than all other 4G devices combined in the sub-Rs 10,000 smartphone category when we launch our 4G-enabled Moto E in the country,” Motorola India General Manager Amit Boni told ET, adding that the company though hasn’t decided on the pricing on the device.

In India, the 4G version of the Moto E would compete with the likes of Lenovo's A6000 (Rs 6,999), Yu's Yureka (Rs 8,999) and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G (Rs 9,999). The company already offers 4G smartphones in the high-end category -Moto Turbo and Google Nexus 6.

Apple currently leads the 4G LTE smartphone market with a 45% market share, followed by HTC with 19% share and Samsung with 16% share, according to market research firm CMR. Motorola sells its devices in India through e-commerce firm Flipkart.
