Gangrani also emphasises on the need to take the help of private art enthusiasts and connoisseurs.
Mumbai has the problem of multiplicity of agencies. The most important thing when it comes to art is the coordination among the different agencies to find out the suitable open spaces first of all. Bhushan Gagrani, Principal Secretary, Team CMO (Chief Minister's Office, Government of Maharashtra) shares how he thinks it can be done in maximum city.
"All the agencies such as MMRDA, Bombay Port Trust, BMC should come together and identify a piece of land where art pieces can be installed. After that, it is necessary to take the help of private art enthusiasts or private connoisseurs. Then only a particular piece, considering the ecosystem of that area, can be put up," he said. From left: GV Sanjay Reddy, Gayatri Ruia, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Bose Krishnamachari, Bhushan Gagrani and Minal Vazirani at the inaugural ETPanache Dialogues. Gangrani has a lot of experience in this and is sure a lot of private sector people are coming forward to sponsor these things. "There is a lot of enthusiasm in the corporate world as well as with the NGOs – they want to depict something. So, depiction is one part and maintenance is another issue," he added.
As these spaces are open to the public, there is also the challenge to maintain the spaces. "All said and done, I see a lot of movements, especially in the central part of our city, where a lot of people are coming forward, putting up different art pieces and exhibitions. I am sure in the near future we will see new open spaces and venues for art in Mumbai," he ended.

Mukherjee and Reddy echoed similar thoughts about art playing an important part in aiding the younger generation’s search for a cultural identity. “The younger generation isn’t able to connect back to their identity as Indians,” Reddy said. “The only way that identity will return is when people start appreciating the wealth of knowledge, history, culture, the social fabric that we’ve had for centuries. Exposure to art is one way to bring it back.”

Almost everyone is familiar with Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. But how many have visited the Bihar Museum in Patna to view the 3rd century BCE Didarganj Yakshi sculpture, considered one of the finest examples of Mauryan art?
