'Mission Mangal' set to cross Rs 100 cr mark, becomes Akshay Kumar's biggest opener

'Batla House', that also opened on the same weekend, raked in Rs 47.99 crore.

'Mission Mangal' is based on the true story of India's mission to Mars.
Director Jagan Shakti's 'Mission Mangal' has struck gold at the box office. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menen and Sharman Joshi, is set to cross the Rs 100 crore mark after its first weekend.

Inspired by real events, the movie raked in Rs 97.56 over since its release.

The film has become Akshay Kumar’s biggest opener to date. Khiladi Kumar's previous bumper openers '2.O' and 'Kesari' earned Rs 95 crore and Rs 78.07 crore respectively at the weekend box office.


Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the numbers.



The film locked horns with John Abraham's 'Batla House', that raked in Rs 47.99 crore over the weekend.

Currently at Rs 193.14 crore, Akshay Kumar's highest grossing film, 'Mission Mangal', is all set to cross enter the Rs 200 crore-club. The movie was also minted the biggest opener after its release last month. The film managed to earn Rs 128.16 crore in just right days.
