At the centre of Matka King is Brij Bhatti, played by Vijay Varma, a clever and ambitious cotton trader who finds himself at the crossroads of opportunity and risk. As Bombay’s economy and social landscape evolve, Bhatti introduces a new form of gambling known as ‘Matka’, turning what was once an elite pastime into a mass phenomenon that spreads across the country. The series traces Brij Bhatti’s journey from a small-time trader to a powerful figure, while also exploring the personal and moral dilemmas that come with his rise. Themes of ambition, identity, class mobility and the quest for respect form the emotional core of the narrative, making the story not just about crime or gambling but about the human desire to succeed and belong.
