Malayalam cinema has something for everyone this week, from family dramas and crime stories to comedies with unexpected twists. Some take the audience to mysterious and secretive worlds, while others deal with complex relationships and strange circumstances. These are some recent and upcoming OTT releases that you should put on your watchlist if you want to watch something new at home.

Avaraachan & Sons - Netflix

Biju Menon returns with a mix of comedy and drama in Avaraachan & Sons, which premieres on Netflix on October 30. The 2-hour-14-minute Malayalam film follows Avaraachan, a carefree widower whose drinking habits trigger a violent feud in Chellanam. The situation forces him to leave with his two grown sons, played by Sreenath Bhasi and Ganapathi, and head to a hill station in North Kerala.

The film also features Vinay Forrt, Johny Antony and Grace Antony. It combines family drama, action and humour, with Biju Menon's comic timing and the cast's chemistry emerging as some of its strengths. However, the story has received criticism for following a familiar path.

SI Yugandhar - Netflix

For viewers who enjoy crime thrillers, SI Yugandhar is another film arriving on Netflix on October 30. Directed by Raghavendra Katari, the Telugu film stars Aadi Saikumar as an honest sub-inspector investigating a mysterious body.

What begins as an investigation leads him towards dark secrets hidden across the city. With a runtime of 2 hours and 31 minutes, the film is available in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. Its multiple language options make it accessible to viewers who prefer watching crime dramas in their own language.

Akka - Netflix

Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte come together for Akka, a Tamil crime series set in the fictional town of Pernuru during the 1980s. The story centres on a powerful sisterhood known as the Akkas, who hold influence over local politics, money and a gold-smuggling network.

If an unusual premise interests you, Dhoomakethu offers a mystery with an unsettling beginning. The Malayalam film stars Sajin Gopu as Kuttan, a man whose wedding day takes a strange turn after he dreams about his own death.

Nikhila Vimal, Shine Tom Chacko, Ganapathi and Siddharth Bharathan also feature in the film, which revolves around an underwater mystery. The underwater sequences were shot practically, giving the film a distinctive visual style. Dhoomakethu began streaming on Netflix on October 23, making it an option for those catching up on recent Malayalam releases.

Baththa - Netflix

Baththa is a comedy drama set in Madras in the late 1980s starring Vijay Sethupathi. Baththavachalam is a local bully. His day takes a turn for the worst when a young boy named Sabhari accidentally locks him inside a school bathroom.

Although Sabhari is frightened of Baththa, he secretly feeds him rusks before going to seek help. The unusual situation brings the two characters together and sets the stage for a change in Baththa's behaviour.

Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, the film also stars Master Sai Prithviraj, Lijomol Jose, Baby Sahasra Shree, Santhy Balachandran and Hari Krishnan. Baththa premiered on Netflix on October 29, 2026.
