Lata Mangeshkar to remain in ICU for another 10-12 days, doctor says the singer's condition is stable

The singer is currently being treated for Covid-19 and pneumonia.

Doctors have confirmed that the singer's condition is stable
Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, who was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, will continue to be in the ICU for the next 10 to 12 days.

Doctors from the hospital told TOI Online that the singer is being closely monitored and is being treated for both Covid-19 and pneumonia.

Doctors have confirmed that the singer's condition is stable and that she has not been put on oxygen.


Dr Pratit Samdani from the hospital confirmed that the legendary singer was rushed to the hospital on Saturday night.

"We cannot go to see Didi as it is a COVID case. There are sufficient doctors and nurses there, though," Mangeshkar's sister Usha told TOI Online.

On Tuesday, Mangeshkar's niece Rachna told media persons that the singer is being admitted to the ICU as a precautionary measure considering her age. Rachna had also requested respect the family's privacy.

In November 2019, the singer was rushed to the same hospital after she complained of breathing trouble.

The veteran singer is 92.

Throughout her career, she has sung over 30,000 songs in over 36 Indian and foreign languages. Her major contribution has been to Hindi cinema.

From classical music to film songs, from ghazals to bhajans and pop, Mangeshkar has sung in a variety of genres. The quality of her work and the sheer volume of songs earned her the 'Guinness Book of World Records' for recoding the maximum songs between 1974 and 1991.

Mangeshkar has been conferred Padma Bhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Dada Saheb Phalke Award (1989), Maharashtra Bhushan Award (1997), NTR National Award (1999), and Bharat Ratna (2001).
