LaCie, a brand owned by Seagate, is known for hard drives. This latest offering has rugged design and a USB Type-C port.

Considering not all computers come with a USB Type-C port, LaCie includes two cables in the box: a Type-C to Type-C cable and a Type-C to USB A 3.0. With USB Type-C you can transfer data at speeds of up to 130MB/s.


With realworld usage, we consistently got transfer speeds of 85-90MB/s. This means about 6GB can be transferred in a minute and 35 seconds. Note that the shock absorbing exterior makes it bulkier than a standard external hard-drive.

We liked that an indication light is present near the Type-C port even with the rugged form.

The drive easily survived drops from an average table height as well as accidental splashes of water.

The price includes a two-year subscription of Seagate’s data recovery software.
