Who is cutting the onions? We are already getting emotional. Karan Johar has officially announced Season 9 of Koffee With Karan, but there is a bittersweet twist. The upcoming season will be the final one for the popular celebrity talk show. The filmmaker is set to bring back the gossip, glamour, wit and candid conversations with a new line-up of celebrity guests. The show, which first aired in 2004, is now preparing to serve its last cup of Koffee.

Season 9 of Koffee With Karan will stream on JioHotstar from October 14. Karan shared the announcement along with an emotional promo that looks back at the show's long journey, his family and some of the memorable moments from the past seasons. Karan Johar shared the Season 9 promo on Instagram, confirming that the show will return on October 14. In the video, the filmmaker looks back at how the idea for the celebrity chat show first came about.

Karan recalled telling his father, filmmaker Yash Johar, about his idea for a talk show in 2004. His father passed away soon after, while the first season premiered in August that same year. Since then, the show has gone on to become one of the most recognisable celebrity talk shows in India.



The promo also features Karan talking about several parts of his career and the conversations that took place on his famous couch. From the recurring discussions around nepotism to celebrity relationships and break-ups, the filmmaker looks back at how the show became part of entertainment conversations over the years.

Why is Koffee With Karan ending?

Karan has described Season 9 as the final chapter of Koffee With Karan. In a press note, he said, "Here are some journeys you don't plan to end, you simply know, somewhere deep within you, when it is time to let them go. Koffee With Karan has been an extraordinary part of my life. It has given me friendships, memories, moments of complete madness, a lot of love and, yes, its fair share of controversy! But through all of it, what has remained constant is the audience."

He described the show as an important part of his life, crediting it with giving him friendships, memories, love and plenty of controversial moments. However, he said the audience has remained the one constant throughout the show's run.

For Karan, ending the show is emotional, but he feels the timing is right. He has invited viewers to join him for one final season and one last cup of Koffee.

Koffee With Karan Season 9 guests list

The final season could also bring together several major Bollywood names. According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Farhan Akhtar and Akshaye Khanna are expected to appear together on the show.

The reported episode is linked to the 25th anniversary of Dil Chahta Hai, the 2001 coming-of-age film that starred Aamir, Saif and Akshaye, with Farhan Akhtar as its director.

Another reported reunion could feature Kajol, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jaya Bachchan. Their episode is expected to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, the 2001 family drama directed by Karan Johar.

Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar are also rumoured to appear together on the Koffee With Karan couch. The two actors are associated with the upcoming Golmaal 5, which could provide a promotional reason for their appearance.



Meanwhile, Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna are reportedly expected to make their debut on the show together. Their reported appearance has attracted attention as the two are now married.

Other names reportedly linked to Season 9 include Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Samay Raina, Farah Khan, Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Lakshya and Janhvi Kapoor. These names have been reported as possible or expected guests and have not all been officially confirmed by the makers.

From its first episode in 2004 to its upcoming final season, the show has featured some of the biggest names from Bollywood and beyond.
