How a Vijay, Asin movie influenced Jason Sanjay at a young age. Tamil Nadu CM’s son talks about life as his Sigma movie set for release

Actor-turned-politician Vijay's son Jason Sanjay is gearing up for the release of his directorial debut Sigma on October 2, 2026. The film, starring Sundeep Kishan, has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Ahead of the big release, Jason Sanjay is on a promotional spree and has been talking about the film, his journey as a filmmaker, life as the Tamil Nadu CM's son and more.

During a conversation with Galatta Plus, Jason opened up about how he deals with the discussions surrounding his father's personal and political life and the limitations that come with it.

Jason said he tries to stay away from the constant chatter surrounding his father as much as possible. According to him, there will always be an outside narrative around Vijay, especially given his position in public life.




He explained that, "I think because of where my father is right now in his life, I just need to make sure I safeguard the reputation of the family. I want to make sure I’m not doing anything in an inconsiderate manner which may offend anyone. Because my father is the CM of the state. It’s not in terms of my work, but in my personal life. I do have certain limitations. As long as there’s no collateral damage. I just need to trust my intuition and hope for the best.”

Does being Vijay's son put pressure on Jason?

When asked whether all of this sometimes feels like too much pressure, Jason agreed that it does. He also admitted that he thinks about how people perceive him because he is Vijay's son.

Jason acknowledged that his family's legacy will always be connected to him. At the same time, he wants to build an identity of his own in the film industry.

While promoting Sigma, Jason said he is aware that audiences may initially look at the film through the lens of his family background. However, he hopes that once the film begins, viewers will simply see it as a film and focus on the story and his work as a director.

For Jason, Sigma is therefore not just his debut behind the camera but also an opportunity to present his own creative vision.

The Vijay film that influenced Jason Sanjay as a child

Jason has also spoken about how much his father's films influenced him while growing up. In an earlier YouTube conversation with FilterCopy Enga Area, he recalled watching Vijay's films during his childhood and singled out Pokkiri as the one he watched the most.

The 2007 Vijay and Asin-starrer was released during the Pongal season and remains one of the films Jason remembers from his childhood. He recalled the excitement around Vijay's film releasing alongside an Ajith film during the festive period.

He said, "More than the action, I loved the costumes he wore. I would wear similar ones and take pictures. Even the hairstyle too… the funk."

His memories show how Vijay's on-screen image influenced Jason from a young age, including his sense of style.

Sigma: Cast, story and release date

Sigma marks Jason Sanjay's first film as a director. Sundeep Kishan plays the lead role, while Faria Abdullah is also part of the cast. Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan and Yog Japee feature in important roles.

Krishnan Vasant is the cinematographer, while S Thaman has composed the music. National Award-winning editor K L Praveen is handling the editing. The film is produced by Subaskaran under the Lyca Productions banner.

The film revolves around a high-stakes heist connected to a Rs 500 crore racket involving drugs and gambling. Sigma is scheduled to release worldwide on October 2, 2026, across multiple languages.
