With major brands going on sale this week, it’s likely you’re going to come across some real sale gems. But, for every find, you will have 10 blunders. However, our tips will help you make the most out of the season’s discounts.

Pre-sale run

While most of the major sales are already on, if a particular brand you like hasn’t started as yet, pay them a visit to find out your size. This way, on the day of the sale, you can pop in and find garments you like and won’t have to waste hours in line at the changing room.

Put on your headphones

Stores often play hectic dance and loud pop music so that customers are pepped up. An enthusiastic and active shopper is more likely to pick up more items — usually on impulse. To stay calm and avoid unwanted purchases, carry your own music player and listen to relaxing music so that you can make clear-headed decisions.

Shop on Thursday

If you visit the sale on two consecutive days, chances are you’ll find different items on sale. If you want to see the most variety, head to the sales on Thursday. Shopping on Thursday means you will miss the crowd, get the best prices and selection.

Be an early bird

Now this is what we call a power lunch. The best time to shop during a sale is as soon as the store opens or in the afternoon (2-3 pm). Less people means that the queues are shorter, the staff will be more attentive to your needs and you can browse in peace. We recommend you avoid shopping post 6 pm as you get the working crowd and skip the 11 am-1 pm slot that is popular with stay-at-home mothers and college crowd.

Dress to change

Shopping during the sales is exhausting. And guys, you don’t want to negotiate the aisles in your formal shoes and button down shirt. Since you will be changing frequently, make sure you dress in a way that is comfortable and lets you change with ease.

Avoid trends

Sure, slim cut pants are all the rage now, but when it’s raining sales, you need to rein in your inner wild child. There’s a reason why that leather waistcoat is 70 per cent off. When it comes to sales, stick to the classics.
