According to Angre, a lot of men tend to overlook skincare, despite the increased focus on grooming.
When Kavita Angre, Director, Insights and Media, L’Oreal India, meets a well-groomed man, there are two crucial things she notices.

“The first thing that hits my eyes is the hair and how well-kept it is. Next would be the face, whether it’s really taken care of because when you take care of your skin, it shows.”

But, according to Angre, a lot of men tend to overlook skincare, despite the increased focus on grooming.

“You find a lot of changes are happening right now but not too many men are careful about how they clean the dirt off their skin and what kind of products they should be using to take care of their skin. It’s one of the two areas where there’s not enough knowledge about what should be done.”

Asked how men can start investing in their skin, Angre said, “The internet and social media are a good place to start. You can find information in terms of what to do. Alternatively, friends are usually one of the best sources of information. You think: ‘He’s my friend, he’s like me. You know whatever works for him works for me’.”

Great Skin Is Gender Neutral
Angre believes that one shouldn’t pick skincare products on the basis of gender but on the basis of skin type.

Angre believes that one shouldn’t pick skincare products on the basis of gender but on the basis of skin type. “I think you’ll find a lot of men using women’s products and the difference is really the kind of skin you have. There are certain products that you need for a specific type of skin. In reality, men use women’s products but there are also specialist products for men which really suit their needs in terms of the kind of damage their skin goes through because of the exposure to outdoor pollution etc.”

Does it work vice-versa?

“Women hesitate to use men’s products because of the perception of it being harsher but that’s not really true,” she said.
