Jailer 2 OTT release: Why is the Hindi version facing a hurdle?

Jailer 2 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 15, 2026, during the Dussehra festive period. If reports are to be believed, according to 123Telugu, the producers are planning to release the film on an OTT platform four weeks after its theatrical debut. However, national multiplex chains reportedly insist on an eight-week gap for Hindi releases. Here is what we know about the reported dispute, the film's cast and its release plans.




According to reports, the proposed four-week gap between the theatrical and digital releases is at the centre of the issue. Major national multiplex chains, including PVR INOX and Cinepolis, reportedly follow an eight-week window for Hindi films before they become available on OTT platforms.

If the reported disagreement continues, the Hindi version of Jailer 2 could miss screenings at these multiplex chains in North India. Instead, the film may rely on single-screen theatres in the region for its Hindi theatrical release.

A leading OTT platform has reportedly paid a substantial amount to acquire the digital streaming rights for the film, with the shorter window forming part of the reported arrangement. However, the streaming platform, exact OTT release date and financial details have not been officially confirmed in the information available so far.

The reported development concerns the Hindi theatrical rollout and does not necessarily mean that the film will skip its overall theatrical release. The movie is still scheduled to reach cinemas on October 15.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The filmmaker also directed the first instalment, which arrived in 2023 and became one of the superstar's major box office successes. Its performance raised expectations for the sequel, which has been among the most anticipated Tamil films.



Sun Pictures has backed the upcoming project, while Anirudh Ravichander has returned as the music composer. The makers have been building anticipation through promotional material, including an announcement teaser and the song Ala Bolelo.

The sequel also features an expanded cast. SJ Suryah, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Vidya Balan are among the actors associated with the project. Reports have also pointed to cameo appearances by Malayalam star Mohanlal, Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar and Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan. Vijay Sethupathi is also expected to make a cameo appearance.
