Maneka Gandhi (L) mentioned in her tweet that the saree she wore for her son's wedding was woven by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (R).
In a world where everything is about what's trending, micro-blogging platform Twitter is the go-to place for millennials, and for the seasoned too. Former Union minister Maneka Gandhi, too, kicked up a tweet-storm of sorts, after she posted, and later deleted a tweet.
Commemorating #SareeTwitter, the BJP MP from Sultanpur first shared a picture from her son Varun Gandhi's wedding to Yamini Roy where she is seen wearing a pink saree. The 62-year-old politician, however, deleted the tweet hours after having posted it. In the now-deleted tweet, Gandhi revealed that the saree was woven by former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru when he was in jail during India's freedom struggle.
“The cotton saree that I’m wearing was woven by Pt. Nehru in jail and is now over 70 years old. I wore it on my son’s wedding in Benares. My daughter-in-law Yamini is wearing an antique saree which was given to me by my mother-in-law on my wedding day,” read Gandhi's tweet, which is absent from Twitter now.
Her tweet comes a week after Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra posted a throwback picture in a saree. Her post gained immense popularity and was retweeted by over four thousand people.

Politics is no longer just an area of interest; it now runs in families in the form of a legacy. While the trend of sons and daughters carrying forward their baton has been in existence since after Independence, now, even wives are not shying away from providing political capital.
The 17th Lok Sabha polls are in full swing, and some wives of politicians have stepped forward to take active part not just in campaigning but also in candidature. The newest in line is actress Poonam Sinha, the wife of actor Shatrughan Sinha. The 69-year-old joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) in April this year and will be contesting elections from Lucknow against Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
However, she isn't the only one who stepped forward to join politics with her husband.
