Another set of siblings who joined the family's politics scene are Tej Pratap Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav and daughter Misa Bharti. They are the children of Bihar's former chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. All of them joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) like their parents.

Tej Pratap Yadav, the eldest sibling, became a part of the political scene in 2015. The 33-year-old was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Mahua constituency. He was also chosen as Bihar's Environment Minister in 2015.

Second-eldest sibling Tejashwi also joined the Bihar Legislative Assembly in the same year from Raghopur constituency. The 29-year-old was also elected as the state's deputy chief minister for a brief period, from 2015-2017.

Misa, the eldest daughter and the third-eldest sibling, made her first effort to join politics in 2014 from Patliputra on an RJD ticket. However, she did not prove victorious. Later, in 2016, she was chosen the party's nominee for the Rajya Sabha and was elected unopposed with lawyer-politician Ram Jethmalani.

From down south, the Karunanidhi brothers (MK Stalin and MK Muthu) are a popular sibling duo in politics. The two are Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's (DMK) first President M. Karunanidhi's sons.

MK Muthu, the eldest son of the generation, also Stalin's step brother, was his father's first choice of successor in politics. However, Muthu's unsuccessful foray in the film industry to take on a rival party's founder resulted in some differences with his father.

Following this, Karunanidhi changed his initial decision and named MK Stalin (his third son) as his political heir in 2013. Stalin, who is the current DMK President, is also Tamil Nadu's first-ever directly elected Mayor. In 2009, he also served as the state's Deputy Chief Minister. This year, Stalin will be contesting elections from Kolathur.

Karunanidhi's daughter, MK Kanimozhi also joined politics with her brother Stalin. She currently serves as the MP of Rajya Sabha representing Tamil Nadu. The 51-year-old was first elected to the upper house in 2007. Following a good term, she was re-elected in 2013. Kanimozhi is also the Secretary to DMK's Women's wing.

Jawaharlal Nehru and his sister Vijay Laxmi Pandit are another brother-sister duo popular for their leadership skills. The two, who struggled to gain Independence, are hailed as some of the greatest leaders of democratic India. The two followed the footsteps of their father Motilal Nehru into politics. While Nehru was elected as free India's first Prime Minister, Pandit became the first woman to hold a cabinet post.

Scindia siblings Madhavarao, Yashodhara and Vasundhra Raje were born to Gwalior's last ruling king. They followed in their mother's footsteps to becoming political leaders. Ironically, the trio opted for different paths when it came to politics. While Madhavarao joined the Congress, Yashodhara and Vadundhara continued on the same path and chose BJP.

One of the greatest leaders of the Congress, Madhavarao's stint with politics was a short-lived one after he died in a plane crash in 2001. His son Jyotiraditya Scindia, the current MP from Guna, carried forward his father's political legacy. This year, the 48-year-old will be contesting elections from the same constituency.

Vasundhara, the second-eldest sibling, served as Rajasthan's CM twice - from 2003-2008 and 2013-2018. Her political career began in 1985 when she won a seat in the Rajasthan state legislative assembly. In 1989, she moved to national politics and won a Lok Sabha seat. In 2003, she returned to Rajasthan politics and led a bright term for BJP in the state.

Yashodhara, the youngest of all three, joined politics in 1994. She kicked off her political career in 1998 by contesting the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections on a BJP ticket. She was re-elected to the seat in 2003. Last year, she defeated Congress's Siddharth Ladha in the Assembly polls from the Shivpuri constituency.

Brother-sister duo of Kashmir Omar Abdullah, and Sarah Pilot are the kids of former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.

Omar, the elder son, became the youngest member of the Lok Sabha in 1998; he joined the 12th Lok Sabha at the age of 29. In 2002, the 49-year-old stepped into his father's shoes and became the President of National Conference party. Following a good term, he was re-elected to the post in 2006.

Sarah, on the other hand, is the wife of Congress's Sachin Pilot, and has been often hailed for her efforts in uplifting women. She is also popular for working with NGOs in the interest of the women of her state.

India's first lady Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's sons, Rajiv and Sanjay, followed in their mother's footsteps into politics. While one sibling went on to serve as the country's Prime Minister like his mother, the other one did not enjoy a successful political career.

Rajiv, the elder sibling, joined politics following the assassination of his mother in 1984. He held the PM office from 1984 to 1989 and was the country's youngest PM at the age of 40. He continued to serve as the party's President till the 1991 elections. However, in the same year, he was assassinated during an election campaign by a suicide bomber.

Younger sibling Sanjay was earlier believed to succeed his mother in politics. His unexpected demise in a plane crash was what led to the appointment of his elder brother Rajiv as the political heir. In 1977, following the removal of Emergency, he made his first unsuccessful attempt to contest elections. In 1980, a month before his death, he was elected as the secretary general of Congress.
