PM Modi left the Internet buzzing, on Monday, when he announced that he would give up his social media accounts on Sunday.
After more than twelve hours of intense speculation and guesswork, the big reveal, or some of it, has happened. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday afternoon put a lot of rumours to rest after he gave a backdrop to his cryptic “giving up social media” tweet from Monday evening.

The Prime Minister, in a tweet, wrote that on Sunday - which also happens to be International Women's Day - he would “give away his social media accounts to women whose life & work inspire us”.

Using the hashtag, #SheInspiresUs, he urged his followers to send the names of such inspiring women an d share their stories with him. He further wrote that this will help "ignite motivation in millions".

Twitterati on Monday evening went into an overdrive after the PM had put out a cryptic tweet in which he wrote that "This Sunday, thinking of giving up my social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube". What followed was TV debates, online sparring and much guesswork whether the PM was calling it quits due to the recent deluge of fake news and hate speech. Some even went to the extent of guessing that a home-grown social media universe was in the works, and thus, the PM was logging off from the foreign-made entities. His tweet puts a stop to all speculation.
