If you visit Mumbai, taxi and auto drivers often take tourists past celebrity homes like Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat and Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments, hoping they might catch a glimpse of the stars. Another popular stop is veteran actress Hema Malini's residence. For decades, it has simply been known as "Hema Malini's bungalow." Now, daughter and actress Esha Deol has offered fans a rare look inside the iconic home, revealing its history, unique design and the stories hidden within its walls.

Why is Hema Malini's 54-year-old house called Advitiya?

Esha Deol recently took viewers inside the family's historic Mumbai residence in a video shared by Curly Tales on YouTube. During the tour, she revealed that despite being over 54 years old, the bungalow did not have an official name for many years and was simply recognised as Hema Malini's bungalow.

According to Esha, the house was recently named Advitiya by spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. She explained that the name means "unique" or "mystic," making it a fitting title for a home that has witnessed decades of family memories, artistic achievements and cinematic history.

The actress also shared that the bungalow has been Hema Malini's home since she first moved to Mumbai. Over the years, it has become a space that reflects not only her career but also her love for Indian culture, art and classical dance.

A home where dance is part of everyday life

One of the first things visitors notice is how deeply dance is woven into every corner of the house. The entrance is decorated with bronze sculptures depicting classical dance mudras, immediately reflecting Hema Malini's lifelong dedication to the art form.

The spacious living room also serves as a rehearsal space. It features specially designed wooden flooring that can comfortably accommodate around 30 dancers at a time. According to Esha, her mother continues to practise dance there regularly.

She also described the dance hall as one of the most meaningful parts of the house. Esha said dance has always helped Hema Malini navigate both joyful and difficult phases of life. Out of respect for the space and the art, shoes are strictly not allowed inside the hall.

Dharmendra-Hema's reserved seats

Among the home's most touching features is a cosy sitting area dedicated to Hema Malini and Dharmendra. The space includes reserved seats with portrait cushions printed with the couple's faces, making it one of the most memorable corners of the house.

The residence also houses an office filled with treasured memories, including fan gifts, paintings, framed photographs and memorabilia from Hema Malini's films, including Razia Sultan. These keepsakes shows the affection fans have shown the them throughout the long career.

A renovated home with two kitchens

Although the family has lived on the property for decades, the original bungalow underwent major renovations after suffering damage during the 2005 Mumbai floods. Today, it has been transformed into a multi-storey residence with separate floors for Hema Malini, Esha Deol and other family members.

Esha also revealed an interesting detail about the home's kitchen arrangements. Hema Malini, who follows a strict vegetarian diet, has her own dedicated kitchen and personal chef. A second kitchen is used to prepare non-vegetarian meals for other family members and guests, including Esha's children. According to Esha, this thoughtful arrangement ensures everyone's food preferences are respected without compromising her mother's lifestyle.

Throughout the house tour, Esha made it clear that Advitiya is much more than a celebrity residence. It is a family home that preserves generations of memories, celebrates art and culture, and stands as a tribute to Hema Malini and Dharmendra's remarkable journey together.
