IKEA opens in Namma Bengaluru, overjoyed netizens welcome Nagasandra store

The multinational conglomerate known for its ready-to-sell furniture, IKEA, has opened its fourth store in India. The brand has launched its sprawling complex in Nagasandra in Bengaluru. Spread over 12.2 acres, the store by the world’s leading Swedish furnishing group, houses over 7,000 affordable and high-quality home furnishing products.

The store also boasts of one of the largest children’s play areas Smaland along with a bistro with a capacity for 1000 visitors. Residents of the bustling city welcomed the international retailer with open arms. Many were seen posting pictures from their visits to the store on their social media handles.

The launch of the much-awaited store came as a reason for joy for many from the city. Many of them took to Twitter to express their happiness at the launch of the store.


“Real-life adulting is when you get more excited about an IKEA outlet opening nearby than an H&M outlet,” tweeted one user, while another said called it his next travel destination in the city. The opening of the store witnessed people thronging in hundreds to witness the grandeur of the latest outlet.
The store is part of IKEA’s plan to invest nearly Rs 3,000 crore in Karnataka. The brand is expecting nearly five million visitors to its Bengaluru outlet this year. Many have hailed the store as an iconic landmark in the city which will cater to the ever-growing furnishing requirements of the residents. For IKEA, Bengaluru is a prospective market where rental spaces are more affordable than Mumbai, where it is operating two stores.

Susanne Pulverer, CEO of IKEA India, in a recent interview, said that India is a strong market for the Swedish retail giant. "IKEA is growing in India and continues to be a strong market. The large projects take time due to multiple approvals. We will have more projects coming up in Bengaluru either through a lease model or by buying land and setting up our own facilities," she said.

IKEA launched its first retail store in India in 2019 in Hyderabad. Even before the launch of its first store, the brand had chalked out its plans to make its presence felt in Bengaluru, Mumbai and the National Capital Region. A year later it opened its store in Navi Mumbai in December 2020. The brand unveiled its third outlet in Worli, Mumbai in December 2021. The retail behemoth has plans to open as many as 30 stores across the country by 2028. Besides, it is also planning to launch two malls in Gurugram and Noida respectively by 2025.
