R Madhavan on why he carries a wallet

During the conversation, Madhavan pointed out that his 3 Idiots co-star Aamir Khan is extreme when it comes to carrying a wallet. He added that Aamir Khan's stardom allows him to function different, with people around him taking care of things. However, due to Dhurandhar star's own personality, he cannot move arounf with an entourage, because he prefers to walk along and its gives him freedom.

‘I spend what I have’

While discussing his spending habits, Madhavan revealed that he does not consider himself extremely careful with money. However, he follows a simple principle of living within his means. The actor explained that even when he wants something expensive, he would not automatically buy it simply because he can afford it. He gave the example of a bigger car, saying that if the purchase did not fit his budget, he would not go ahead with it. This approach, according to Madhavan, reflects the way he exercises financial discipline. He may not be overly frugal, but he avoids stretching his finances for luxury purchases.

Madhavan says he does not have ‘worldly possessions’

Madhavan also spoke about his relationship with material possessions, admitting that he does not have many worldly possessions. He suggested that this is also reflected in his stardom and the way he chooses to live. His comments indicate that having the financial ability to buy something does not necessarily mean he considers the purchase worthwhile. Instead, he appears to place importance on whether an expense fits within what he has decided to spend.

Madhavan's networth and financial mindset

According to a report by Koimoi, Madhavan’s estimated wealth stands at approximately Rs 115 crore, placing him among the financially successful actors in Indian entertainment. However, his approach to building wealth has reportedly remained rooted in the middle-class values he grew up with. In a conversation with journalist Sonia Shenoy, Madhavan reflected on the financial principles that shaped his journey. He attributed much of his financial success to what he described as a deeply ingrained middle-class outlook.

Rather than pursuing extravagant ventures or taking speculative risks, Madhavan chose to invest primarily in real estate, which has traditionally been viewed as a stable and secure avenue for long-term wealth creation. The actor explained that a middle-class mindset is largely built around caution and long-term planning. Instead of chasing flashy opportunities, it focuses on safeguarding the future, prioritising family welfare and ensuring steady financial progress.
