Nidhi Kunwar lost her parents in the 2013 Uttarakhand disaster when she was just 10 years old. Her grandparents took on the responsibility of raising her, and she felt compelled to make the most of the education they helped provide. She scored 92% in Class 10 and 95% in Class 12 without private tuition. She later got a 100% scholarship for engineering and a good internship. By 20, she was earning nearly Rs 80,000 a month. Yet, despite these achievements, her career did not unfold as she had expected.
Google rejection pushed her to start creating content
In June 2024, Kunwar failed to secure a job and remained unemployed for nine months. She said she stayed indoors for six months and stopped talking to people. Financial independence, she explained, was a necessity rather than a choice. Her final interview was with Google. Convinced that she was suited for the role, she was devastated when she was rejected on March 8, 2025. During a call, her grandmother told her, “Babu, you are having a big dream. Let's see if you get something small.” The conversation made Kunwar question whether her dreams were too ambitious.
The following day, she uploaded a YouTube video titled “I am a loser”. She said she wanted to confront her fear of people rather than keep running away from it. On March 17, 2025, she posted her first Instagram video.
From unemployment to financial independence
Within a year, Kunwar had gained one million followers by creating educational content. She said her earnings now help support her brother's education, while she can also fulfil her grandparents' wishes and enjoy financial stability. She described becoming her own boss and having the freedom to enjoy her work as significant changes in her life. Looking back, she said not getting her first job was not the end of her story, but the beginning of what she considers its most beautiful chapter.
Despite the difficult period, Kunwar said she continues to believe that “everything in life is working in my favour”.
Netizens react
