How Smriti Irani's former industry colleagues Ekta Kapoor, 'Mihir Virani' celebrated Amethi win

Bollywood took to Twitter to laud the former actress.

Union Textiles Minister Smriti's Irani victory in Congress bastion Amethi on May 23 left India and social media buzzing. In what was a historic win, the BJP leader defeated Congress chief Rahul Gandhi by a margin of over 55K votes in the Lok Sabha elections.

As Twitter was flooded with wishes for the 43-year-old, her former colleagues from the film and television industry also congratulated her.

Actor Ronit Roy, who starred as Mihir Virani opposite Irani in her hit-TV show 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', took to Twitter to celebrate her win, saying, "EK NUMBER!!! Amethi main Jeet ki koti koti badhai @smritiirani Aajeevan vijayi bhava."



Meanwhile, Ekta Kapoor who gave Irani her big break in the industry, shared a picture with her using the title song of the show as caption.


Earlier during counting too, Kapoor had displayed her support for Irani with a post on Instagram.

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who is currently in New York for medical treatment, reminisced about the time Irani left 'Simla to serve the nation'.


He also shared his wishlist for NDA 2.0, tagging Smriti Irani in his post along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Arun Jaitley. The '102 Not Out' actor requested them to work towards introducing free education and healthcare.

Director Shekhar Kapur lauded her win saying, "You made what seemed impossible, possible."


Lata Mangeshkar, brothers Anil and Boney Kapoor were also among the several B-town stars who congratulated Irani, lauding her 'hard work'.




Meanwhile, Irani also seems to be inspiring the younger generation of politicians as was evident by 28-year-old Tejasvi Surya's - the winning candidate from Bangalore South constituency - tweet, "Oh man!! I had waited for this selfie with my favourite @smritiirani ji from such a long time. So many countless hours I have spent hearing her speeches & interviews! Her victory in Amethi only reinforces our faith in democracy. Smriti Ji you are a rockstar!"

Mulayam Singh Yadav's family showed a rather subdued performance in this year's polls. While the leader and his son managed to win, his nephews and daughter-in-law weren't as lucky.
