It was a #TerrificThursday for the ruling National Democratic Alliance, as it surged ahead winning the 16th Lok Sabha Elections for the second consecutive term.

In a nail-biting finish, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani proved victorious in Amethi against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. The 43-year-old won the day-long battle with a strong lead of 55,000+ votes. Gandhi, who won in Wayanad, congratulated Irani for her victory while accepting responsibility for the Congress's poor show, in a press conference.

Meanwhile, actor Sunny Deol and cricketer Gautam Gambhir - both of whom made their political debuts for the BJP - also won. Deol won by 82,000+ votes in Gurdaspur, while Gambhir managed a big margin of 3,91,222 votes in his constituency of East Delhi.

Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan, who contested from Gorakhpur which was earlier represented by UP CM Yogi Adityanath, won in his constituency by 3,00,000+ votes. His fellow Bhojpuri star and Delhi BJP chief, Manoj Tiwari, too, retained his North East Delhi seat by 3,66,102 votes.

Hema Malini, who is the incumbent Mathura MP, won by 2,90,000+ votes.
