Hashtags don't help you get more views, Instagram head Mosseri busts common myth

During a Q&A session on his official Instagram page, Mosseri was asked about hashtags and if they help in getting more views.
Replying to the user, Mosseri said that they do not, but they do help users to understand what a post is about.
"Not really. They do help us to understand what a post is about which means it might be more likely to show up in a place like a hashtag page for instance, but in general no, I wouldn’t try and think of hashtags as a way to try and get more distribution,” the head of Instagram replied.
This new piece of information will surely help users understand the functioning of Instagram which is already taking steps and measures to help creators expand reach of their original content.
Recently, Mosseri had also informed users about the platform's new update to its ranking algorithms which will help boost the visibility of original content by actual creators on its feed.
The photo-sharing platform is going to tweak its algorithm to improve its ranking system and better highlight original content from creators, its head Adam Mosseri announced on Wednesday.
"We've added new ways to tag and improved ranking: Product Tags, Enhanced Tags, Ranking for originality," Mosseri said in a tweet last week.
