The trailer begins with the commentator mentioning how the Indian cricket team must be recovering from the double thrashing they received from West Indies and Australia at India vs Zimbabwe 1983 match. as the screen shows India losing its wicket after wicket. From there, the trailer picks up as members of Team India are introduced to the audience.
What follows is the journey of how Team India emerged as champions at the 1983 World Cup despite facing hardship and doubts.
In the trailer, there's a particular scene that left a mark on the audience. The scene shows Kapil Dev (Ranveer Singh) facing the press in a barely filled-up room, where he is asked "what the team's chances in the World Cup?" to which the team captain replies, "We are here to win". The room rings with sarcastic laughter.
In another scene, possibly filmed after the Indian team shines on the cricket pitch, Dev yet again finds himself in a press conference room, only this time, it's completely packed with reporters, as he reminds them his previous statement, "I say before, we here to win", at this point, the entire room erupts with journalists trying to get a quote. This scene left a huge impact on the netizens who applauded the makers for getting the details of the historic event to the point.
Soon after the trailer was released, fans, filled with nostalgia, took to Twitter to praise the makers and star-cast of '83', declaring the upcoming movie a blockbuster even before its Box Office release. To receive a reaction as such from the masses is a true sign of a "masterpiece" indeed. Singh, who plays Dev in the film, received five stars from the fans for portraying the cricketer's personality so neatly.
