2020 has been a challenging year that has tested the patience, grit and determination of the global population. With a global pandemic wreaking havoc on the world and causing an economic slowdown, Indians, much like rest of the world, went to Google for all their 'burning questions' and search queries.
The search giant has now unveiled its top searches for this year. For starters, US President-elect Joe Biden is the most-searched personality followed by news anchor Arnab Goswami. At the third spot is 'Baby Doll' hitmaker Kanika Kapoor who made headlines back in April for flouting Covid norms.
Closely following Kanika Kapoor is actress Rhea Chakraborty who was in the news due to her arrest by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.
Rajput's ex-girlfriend Ankita Lokhande also features on the top-searched personality list. As for the movies, 'Dil Bechara' became the top-searched film which starred Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi. At number three spot was Ajay-Devgn-starrer 'Tanhaji' followed by Vidya Balan's 'Shakuntala Devi'.
Needless to say, Indians were curious to know what is coronavirus, the origins of Binod meme and how the plasma therapy works.
As for top trends of the year, Dalgona coffee and making sanitizer at home also feature on the list.

Netflix show 'Money Heist' became the most-searched TV show/web series, followed for Sony Liv's 'Scam 1992', reality show 'Bigg Boss 14' and Amazon Prime Video's 'Mirzapur 2'.
As for the top most-searched events, Indian Premiere League (IPL) tops the list, followed by the US Presidential Elections and the Beirut Explosion.

Historically, every new era has a set of words associated with it. The Covid era is no exception to the trend. With social distancing becoming the norm of the day, a large number of new words were introduced this year to communicate the experiences of the global population effectively.
There is a slew of new words that have seamlessly entered our vocabulary and perfectly show the sheer absurdity and the strangeness of the times we are living in. For instance, the word ‘pandemic’ ruled ‘word of the year’ for most dictionaries including Websters and dictionary.com.
Meanwhile, the Oxford English Dictionary just couldn’t settle on one word for the year (given how eventful it has been). On the other hand, ‘Lockdown’ was the word of the year for Collins dictionary, while Cambridge Dictionary settled with ‘quarantine’.
