Google will soon allow users to control Spotify or YouTube Music on different devices without primary app

This will allow users to enjoy a playlist or a podcast in their car and resume it later on their phone or TV.

Music plays an integral part in our day. We’re often listening to music, watching a show or hearing a podcast while completing our tasks or following our day-to-day routine, and it's always tricky to start from where we left off. Especially if switching through different devices.

But thanks to what Google has in store for us, that’s about to get easy.

According to a report, Google is currently working on a new feature that will allow users to resume media playback on different devices while they are on the move. The aim of the new media playback update, which includes cross-device notifications, is to offer a better listening experience to users.

The feature will allow users to enjoy better playback options on Spotify Connect-compatible devices, the report said.

The cross-device notifications will allow users to start playing a playlist or a podcast in their car and resume it later on their phone or TV, the TechCrunch report said.

Not only Spotify, but Google is also currently working on adding support for YouTube Music to this upcoming cross-device playback system.

The company mentioned that it employs a combination of signals such as Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi, and ultra-wideband (UWB), as well as the nearby device feature, which detects the proximity of devices, said the report.

Moreover, the tech giant is also working on making switching playback devices easier while using Spotify.

Spotify Connect, like Google's Chromecast and Apple's AirPlay, is a standard that allows users to "cast" media from Spotify to compatible speakers such as an Amazon Echo. To use Spotify Connect and switch between compatible speakers, users must first download the Spotify app. However, they will soon be able to switch between speakers by using Android 13's redesigned media switcher.

While all eyes are on Google and the much-awaited features it has in store for users, the tech giant hasn't specified yet when these features will arrive.
