Rhea Chakraborty requests Amit Shah to initiate CBI probe into Sushant Singh Rajput's death; says she has been receiving threats

NEW DELHI: Actress Rhea Chakraborty, who has been subject to a lot of online abuse and hate after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, took to social media to request a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

On Thursday over a month after his sudden demise, the 28-year-old actress posted a plea to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, under whose jurisdiction the CBI falls, requesting for a probe by the central agency. She said that she wanted to understand what pressured or prompted Rajput to take this step in the interest of justice.

Chakraborty identified herself as Rajput's girlfriend and asked for Shah's intervention. She also reiterated that she has complete faith in the government.



Earlier in the day, the actress shared a screenshot of rape and murder threats that she has been receiving, and urged the cyber crime cell to look into it.

The VJ-turned-actress, who rose to fame with films like 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti' and 'Jalebi', said while she had ignored many abusive texts sent to her in the past month, the harassment was now unbearable.

Tagging one of the accounts from which she received threat, she said that she remained silent when she was called a "gold digger, murderer or when she was even slut shamed". But, her silence doesn't give anyone the right to ask her to commit suicide. "No one should be subjected to this kind of toxicity and harassment," she added.

Chakraborty, who was subjected to online hate by users blaming her for Rajput's suicide, ended up disabling the comments section of her Instagram page.

Rajput, 34, was found dead in his Bandra apartment on June 14, leaving people in the film industry and audiences beyond shocked. Shortly after his death, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said the Mumbai Police would also probe the angle of "professional rivalry", which was alleged to be the cause of the suicide.

On June 18, Chakraborty was called to Bandra police station to record her statement and was quizzed for 9 hours over her relationship and the actor's state of mind.

Last month, Bihar MP Pappu Yadav had also requested the Home Minister to issue a CBI inquiry into Rajput's death. The politician received a response, and shared the letter by Shah on the microblogging site. Shah had confirmed that he has sent a letter demanding a CBI probe into Rajput's demise to the department concerned.
