Food for thought: Bacardi CEO bonds with guests over Rajasthani cuisine

Mahesh Madhavan's go-to restaurant for Indian food in Bermuda is Ruby Murry’s.

Mahesh Madhavan believes in building long-term partnerships by giving people a glimpse into his culture, home and beliefs.

For Bermuda-based Bacardi CEO Mahesh Madhavan, wining and dining with potential business partners isn’t a oneoff; it’s all in a day’s work.

However, in what becomes the perfect mixture of East meeting West, Madhavan says he likes to introduce the Indian custom of atithi devo bhava (treat your guests like God) to these meetings.

“I think when you give people a glimpse into your culture, your home and your beliefs, you build partnerships for the long term,” he told a financial magazine recently.

And so, Madhavan took his guests for authentic Rajasthani delicacies at a mirror palace in Udaipur and for Peruvian cocktails, all part of a shortlist of eclectic venues to host guests and employees. His go-to restaurant for Indian food in Bermuda, however, remains Ruby Murry’s.

“It serves the best Indian food on the island. It recently catered an impromptu dinner of lentils, butter chicken and lamb for 150 Bacardi leaders from more than 20 countries on my back lawn, with less than 24 hours’ notice,” he recalls.
