Here are five new K-dramas to add to your watchlist this week.
Between Steps (JioHotstar) – October 5Starring Kim So-hyun and Choo Young-woo, Between Steps is a South Korean youth romance set in a university robotics laboratory. The 12-episode series follows two students dealing with personal challenges as they find their way towards love and a fresh start. The drama premiered on JioHotstar on October 5.
Choo Young-woo plays Park Min-jae, a former competitive swimmer whose life takes a different turn after he loses his leg to osteosarcoma. He pursues a PhD in mechanical engineering and turns his attention to robotics research.
Kim So-hyun plays Im Yu-jin, a former fashion student who is struggling with an academic crisis. As the two spend time together, they begin to understand each other's struggles and work through difficult experiences. Their relationship develops as they try to rebuild their lives and discover new purpose.
Merry Berry Love (Disney+) – October 7
Ji Chang-wook and Imada Mio headline Merry Berry Love, a Korean-Japanese romantic comedy that brings together two people from very different backgrounds. The series arrives on Disney+ on October 7.
The story follows a Korean spatial designer whose career takes a hit. Looking for a new beginning, he travels to a Japanese island, where he crosses paths with a strawberry farmer. What begins as an unexpected encounter gradually develops into a connection neither of them may have anticipated.
Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia (Netflix) – October 9
If you are into high stakes medical dramas then Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia is the show for you. It’s a combination of hospital politics, corruption and suspense. The series, starring Kim Ji-wwon as Kye Su-jeong, a brilliant surgeon whose attitude in the operating room is unflinching, debuts October 9 on Netflix.
Su-jeong has joined a powerful university hospital to treat the most complicated medical cases, but she is dealing with more than that. She finds herself in the web of corruption, hidden secrets and people with conflicting interests. As she faces these challenges, her skills and determination are challenged.
The Korean series is an adaptation of the Japanese Doctor-X franchise. Lee Jung-eun and Son Hyun-joo also feature in the cast.
Take Charge of My Heart (Netflix) – October 9
Romance takes an unusual turn in Take Charge of My Heart, a fantasy romantic comedy starring Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin. The 12-episode Netflix series premieres on October 9.
Kim Young-kwang plays Baek Ho-rang, a wealthy heir who has an artificial heart. When its battery begins running low, his future becomes uncertain. He then encounters Na Bo-bae, an aspiring drama writer played by Chae Soo-bin, who possesses an unusual ability: she can generate electricity.
Their extraordinary connection brings the two together and sets the stage for a relationship that mixes romance, comedy and fantasy.
100 Days of Deception (Netflix) – October 10
Set in 1932 Gyeongseong, 100 Days of Deception combines historical drama, espionage and romance. The series arrives on Netflix on October 10, with Kim Yoo-jung and Park Jin-young in the lead roles.
The story centres on a talented pickpocket who is recruited for an undercover mission. Her assignment brings her into contact with a Korean-born Japanese interpreter, drawing both into a dangerous world of secrets and deception.
As the mission unfolds, the characters must goes through competing loyalties and the risks surrounding their work.
