Film based on Johnny Depp-Amber Heard controversial trial gets panned, fans say they'd rather re-watch court footage

Hardly four months after the verdict in the controversial Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial came out, a film is being released based on the sensational court case that everyone had glued to their TV or smartphone screens.
The Tubi Originals' 'Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial', starring Mark Hapka as Depp and Megan Davis as his ex-wife Amber, will start streaming on the OTT platform from today.
However, when the first trailer of the film was released on the platform's official YouTube handle on Thursday, it didn't receive the expected reaction and was heavily slammed by fans for making a film "nobody wanted".
"C'mon, we have all just seen the original less than 6 months ago, who needs a remake,' one person commented under the trailer.
“The only hot take here is the fact I'd rather re-watch six weeks of free, raw court footage than any money-milking, dramatized college project,” another YouTube user commented. The comment section of the YouTube video is flooded with similar remarks from unimpressed fans.

The trailer shows Hapka and Davis getting into the skin of their characters, in this case, well-known personalities, Depp and Heard. "It's day one of the Depp vs. Heard defamation trial; though fans are showing support for both sides, there's clearly a favourite here," a reporter is heard saying in the trailer which shows the fans of Depp camping outside the courtroom after travelling from far and wide to attend the hearings.
Earlier this yea in June, the jury found Depp and Heard liable for defamation -- but sided more strongly with the 59-year-old actor following an intense six-week trial riding on bitterly contested allegations of domestic abuse.
Depp was awarded $10 million in damages after the jury found that a 2018 newspaper article penned by Heard on her experience of "sexual violence" was defamatory. The Depp had sued his ex-wife over a Washington Post op-ed in which she did not name him, but described herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse."
The jury awarded 36-year-old actress, who had counter-sued, $2 million.
