Priyanka Vergadia shared that her journey started with an IIT dream that did not materialise in 2000. That early setback, however, did not define her future choices.
Years later, in 2009, she took what she described as a life-changing step, securing a Rs 40 lakh education loan to pursue a Master’s degree in the United States at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. She recalled boarding her first-ever flight alone, carrying not just luggage but also the weight of financial responsibility and family sacrifice, as her father had mortgaged land to support her education.
The transition was far from easy. Adjusting to a new education system, managing daily life independently, and learning basic survival skills like cooking and budgeting all became part of her routine. Alongside this adjustment was a constant pressure to secure a job quickly after graduation in order to repay the loan.
Her career
Despite the challenges, she described a steady sense of hope running in the background, a belief that the risk she and her family had taken would eventually lead somewhere meaningful. Her career path later expanded across global tech giants, including Google, Microsoft, and Intel, with roles that took her across countries for work, meetings, and conferences. She also fulfilled a deeply personal milestone by bringing her parents to the United States to attend her graduation, marking their first flight experience. Reflecting on her journey, she noted how that first flight still holds emotional significance, symbolising both fear and possibility at the start of her independent life.
As mentioned on her LinkedIn profile, she currently serves as Senior Director, Developer GTM and Marketing at Microsoft.
