NEW DELHI: Activist Suhani Jalota, founder of Myna Mahila Foundation, attended the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle along with her foundation members - Archana Ambre, Deborah Das and Imogen Mansfield - on Saturday.

The pretty ladies were an epitome of Indian beauty at the ceremony, draped in elegant sarees designed by Indian brand Raw Mango, run by designer Sanjay Garg.

Garg, Textile Designer and Founder, Raw Mango, told IANS: "We are excited that we were able to represent and create something more than what meets the eyes - the sari is a symbol that is rooted in culture, heritage and history, which speaks to one's individuality & identity, therefore becoming a medium to express oneself."

Myna Mahila Foundation empowers women to speak about issues they are most afraid to discuss aloud - they encourage and employ women from urban slums in Mumbai to manufacture and sell affordable sanitary pads back into their communities, improving menstrual hygiene, providing stable employment, and building a trusted network.

Suhani met Meghan in 2016 when the former went to give an acceptance speech at the Glamour College Women of the Year Awards.

Meghan married Britain's Prince Harry at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

Myna Mahila Foundation was among seven charities hand-picked by the royal couple last month as they announced that anyone who might wish to mark their wedding day on May 19 should consider making a donation to one of the charities, rather than sending a wedding gift.

In a statement, the Kensington Palace said, "The foundation (Myna Mahila Foundation), which aims to offer Mumbai women stable employment close to their homes as well as breaking taboos around menstrual hygiene by offering them access to low-cost sanitary napkins, was chosen by Markle after she saw its work "first-hand" during a visit to India last year."

"The couple have chosen charities which represent a range of issues that they are passionate about, including sport for social chon, the environment, homelessness, HIV and the armed forces. Many of these are small chaange, women's empowerment, conservatirities, and the couple are pleased to be able to amplify and shine a light on their work."

"Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are incredibly grateful for the goodwill shown to them since the announcement of their engagement and are keen that as many people as possible benefit from this generosity of spirit. The couple have therefore asked that anyone who might wish to mark the occasion considers making a donation to charity, rather than sending a wedding gift," the palace statement said.

"Myna Mahila Foundation is delighted to be a part of this special occasion for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. This support will enable us to expand our reach into more urban slums in Mumbai, empowering local women through access to menstrual hygiene products and employment opportunities," said Jalota, who founded the charity in 2015.
