Do mothers always 'know best' ?
As the saying goes ‘A mother’s love is blind’.
Elon Musk, Chief Twit, a.k.a the richest guy on the planet has recently come under fire for his rather callous lay-off of several thousand Twitter employees. The billionaire who acquired the microblogging platform for $44 billion, had bulldozed more than half of the Twitter workforce to cut down the costs.
Although Musk is now the villain to most people, in the eyes of his mother Maye, he is still a misunderstood genius.
Recently the billionaire’s mother went into full mama-bear mode for her son and urged his critics to “stop being mean to him”. Maye Musk was interviewed by the BBCwhere she defended her son against naysayers. She described the 51-year-old as a "genius’’ and stated that her son’s tremendous success is what got him an inordinate amount of hate.
The billionaire has invited a lot of ire for his thoughtless firing of almost half of Twitter’s workforce and multiple C-Suit executives responsible for the privacy and security of the microblogging platform.
His new $ 8-a-month verification system has also led to a proliferation of counterfeit users pretending to be public personalities. Many users have pretended to be athletes and celebrities and it has become increasingly difficult to know which profiles are legitimate and which are fake. This has led Musk to ban parody accounts. The billionaire has publicly stated that no user will be able to mimic or make a parody of another celeb without mentioning the word ‘parody’ on their bio.

Musk’s Twitter takeover also led to an exodus of several high-profile celebrities from the microblogging platform. Several A-listers such as Grammy-winning R&B star Toni Braxton, retired professional wrestler and actor Mick Foley, Academy award-winning actor Whoopi Goldberg, and model Gigi Hadid, have bid farewell to the bird app.
Musk who identifies as a free-speech absolutist has vowed to make Twitter more open to freedom of speech and expression. Since then the microblogging platform has seen a huge surge of anti-African-American and anti-LGBTQ tweets.
