Taking forward a franchise with such a strong fan base was not straightforward, according to filmmaker Abhishek Pathak. As reported by IANS, Pathak said the film was “very complex and nuanced” because of the history attached to every character. He explained that audiences already knew what had happened in the first two films, meaning “every little thing has a meaning”.The director said the team repeatedly returned to the earlier instalments while developing the screenplay. They examined “a small dialogue or visual detail” to determine how it could be incorporated into the new story. Pathak was also conscious of the expectations surrounding the franchise. “I wanted them to feel that nostalgia and feel that all the parts are connected,” he said.
Why Drishyam 3 is different from the earlier films
Pathak also wanted the third film to establish its own identity rather than simply carry the remake tag. He said he did not want audiences to overlook the craft involved in the Hindi version simply because the story was based on an existing franchise. Instead, he wanted to “write it my own way” and take the story forward according to his own vision. The screenplay reportedly went through constant discussions to ensure the twists did not become predictable. Pathak said that whenever something felt obvious, the team would challenge it by asking whether “anyone can guess this”. According to the filmmaker, that process helped them keep the story complicated while ensuring that audiences remained engaged. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
