Trump back with a blue tick? Elon Musk calls Twitter sanction 'foolish' - Jack Dorsey agrees too, but netizens don't

Tesla boss Elon Musk has finally opened up about one of the most sought after questions ever since he announced takedown of Twitter - "Will the ban on Donald Trump be reversed?" and the answer is, yes.

Musk said that if his purchase of Twitter goes through, he will reverse the ban on former US President Trump. The 50-year-old's remark has alarmed another signal of just how permissive the micro-blogging platform could become toward "free speech" once he takes the ownership of the company.

The SpaceX boss was speaking virtually at an auto conference on Tuesday when he called Twitter's ban on Trump "morally bad decision" and "foolish in the extreme".


"I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice," Musk said, adding that he preferred temporary suspensions and other narrowly tailored punishments for content that is illegal or otherwise "destructive to the world."

Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey voiced his agreement in a tweet in which he said “generally permanent bans are a failure of ours and don’t work.”


Twitter, in January, permanently suspended his account due to the risk of further incitement of violence following the storming of the US Capitol on Wednesday.

"After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," the company had said in a tweet.

In the past, Musk has repeatedly criticised Twitter’s content moderation decisions, including banning Trump but had mostly avoided saying what he would do about Trump’s account after he takes ownership of the platform.

Musk's declaration incited worry amongst Twitter users who expressed their concerns on the micro-blogging site.

"If Elon Musk thinks banning trump was "morally wrong," what does he think about a guy with no impulse control inciting violent insurrection at the Capitol with his 85 million Twitter followers?" a Twitter user asked on the micro-blogging platform soon after Tesla chief's remarks went viral.
