Digitek DBS-023 review: Offers multiple connectivity, output is disappointing for Rs 1,895

Battery life is just over 4 hours with volume level at 50%.

Price: Rs 1,895

The oddly-named DBS-023 is Digitek’s latest entry-level speaker with what they call super bass. The speaker is oval with a rubber strap on on top for easy portability. We found the bright orange and blue highlights a bit too loud for our tastes. The silver buttons on the speaker are hard to press and poorly built. We also couldn’t understand why the shape is cylindrical because the sound emanates only from the front.

The good part is that you get multiple connectivity options: Bluetooth, aux, microSD card slot and direct USB playback. However, the audio output is disappointing. There’s not much bass to speak of and we could often hear a low hiss in the background while the music played. Overall volume is good enough in a mid size room but as soon as you push beyond 70% volume, the sound is uncomfortably shrill. There is a built-in microphone too (for calls) but we found ourselves nearly yelling to be audible during a voice call.

Battery life is just over 4 hours with volume level at 50% which is disappointing considering there are so many better speaker options available at this price. At the time of writing, the speaker was available at a price of Rs 1,349 on Amazon, but even at this low price we would recommend you consider the options such as the iBall Soundstick or the Portronics POR-280.

The box includes two wired controllers with a similar design and button layout as the original controllers. It is powered by a Mediatek 8167 quad A35 processor, has 1GB RAM, PowerVR graphics and 16GB storage.

Fitbit launched the Charge 2 last year and garnered great reviews from the media and consumers alike. Its successor was announced earlier this year but has not reached Indian shores. Why would you want it? It has a 40% larger display compared to the Charge 2 and it’s a touchscreen to boot! You get continuous heart rate tracking, swim tracking, fitness, sleep tracking along with smartphone notifications. The band can automatically detect and track the exercise you’re doing, display move reminders, and a battery life of up to 7 days.
