The production house in question is Thenandal Films. According to Hindustan Times reports, the banner has demanded Rs 20 crore in compensation from the actor. The claim is linked to a project that was finalised in 2016 but never materialised.
Why is Dhanush in legal trouble?
As per the legal notice, Dhanush had allegedly signed a film titled Naan Rudhran in 2016. The company alleges that while the project was officially announced and initial groundwork had begun, the actor did not move forward with shooting the film. The makers claim that the project remained incomplete despite their efforts to keep it on track. The notice further states that Dhanush had originally agreed not only to act in the film but also to direct it. However, when plans changed, and the actor reportedly stepped away from the initial arrangement, he is said to have assured the banner that he would collaborate on another project for them instead. The production house claims that this promise, too, did not translate into a completed film.
Through its legal counsel, the company has alleged that although it agreed to modifications in the script and production plan, Dhanush failed to provide a finalised screenplay. Because of this, the film allegedly remained stalled for an extended period. The producers argue that the delays caused significant setbacks.
The makers further claim that they invested close to Rs 20 crore during the early stages of production. According to them, this amount includes advance payments and pre-production expenses. They also allege that payments were made to actors like Nagarjuna Akkineni and S. J. Suryah, who were expected to be part of the project. With the film failing to take off, the banner says it suffered considerable losses and is now seeking compensation to recover the investment.
The notice reportedly warns of further legal action if the demands are not addressed within the specified time frame. However, it is important to note that Dhanush has not issued any official statement regarding the allegations so far. The actor has maintained silence, and his side of the story is yet to be made public.
