Howdid Suriya's father approve actor's love marriage to Jyotika?
In a recent interview with Galatta, Suriya’s father, veteran actor Sivakumar, admitted that when he first learned about Suriya’s love for Jyothika, he was not in favour of it. He said, "However, he was very adamant and said that he would only live with her; otherwise, he would remain single for life."What changed his mind, however, was Suriya’s unwavering stand. Sivakumar revealed that his son was firm and clear about his decision. He reportedly told his father that he would only marry Jyothika, and if that was not possible, he would choose to remain single for the rest of his life. This determination made Sivakumar pause and reflect.
The senior actor shared that he began thinking about his own career during which he had acted in nearly 150 films. Interestingly, many of those movies portrayed love marriages in a positive light. Realising the irony, he eventually decided to respect his son’s choice. Sivakumar said he understood that Suriya was serious and mature enough to make his own life decisions, and he finally gave his consent.
During the same conversation, Sivakumar also recalled that Suriya was extremely shy in his younger days. He revealed that it was Radikaa Sarathkumar who encouraged him to speak to Jyothika during their early interactions. What started as simple conversations gradually blossomed into love.
