Rajpal Yadav's bail hearing update
Earlier today, the court stated that Rajpal Yadav would be granted interim bail once the demand draft is submitted within the stipulated deadline. If he fails to do so, the matter will be heard again on Tuesday morning. A bench led by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma granted him interim bail on the condition that he deposit Rs 1 lakh as a bail bond and furnish one surety. This came after the counsel for M/s Murli Projects confirmed that the actor had deposited Rs 1.5 crore into the company’s bank accounts against the bounced cheque amount.
While granting relief, the court said, "Considering that the petitioner’s niece’s marriage is to take place at Shahjapur and that Rs 1.5 crore has been deposited in the respondent’s account today, we are granting interim suspension of sentence."
The court directed that Rajpal Yadav must appear on the next date of hearing, either in person or through video conferencing. He has also been asked to surrender his passport, if it has not already been deposited. The interim suspension of his sentence will remain in effect till March 18, the next date of hearing.
All you need to know about Rajpal Yadav's case
The case all started from a cheque bounce matter in which the Bollywood had challenged his sentence order. According to the complainant’s counsel, Avnit Singh Sikka, the actor had signed seven cheques of Rs 1.5 crore each. After the cheques were dishonoured, he was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on each count and fined Rs 1.35 crore per cheque. The complainant’s counsel further submitted that Rajpal Yadav neither paid the fine nor managed to secure suspension of his sentence earlier, with the High Court finding no merit in his plea. It was also stated that in 2024, the actor had proposed a settlement through mediation, but allegedly failed to clear the dues.
The counsel added that he had deposited Rs 75 lakh after seeking time from Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma’s court. However, when he did not pay the remaining amount, the court granted him two days to surrender on February 2. He reportedly failed to do so and instead moved another application seeking an extension.
