The Crazy Rich Asians TV series is being developed for Max, with Adele Lim, who co-wrote the original film, returning as writer, showrunner and executive producer. Director Jon M. Chu and Kwan will also executive produce the upcoming project. However, the makers have yet to announce its release date, streaming time or platform for India.
What is the Crazy Rich Asians TV series about?
Kwan's 2013 book Crazy Rich Asians will serve as the basis for the next series. Constance Wu stars as Rachel Chu, a Chinese-American professor who accompanies her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), to Singapore.Rachel is excited to go on vacation with Nick, but she soon finds out that his family is among the richest in Singapore. She has to deal with expectations from her family, new social circles, and the difficulties of dating someone from a very different background.
The original story mixes romance with family conflicts, class differences and the pressures of fitting into a world of privilege. The book was followed by China Rich Girlfriend in 2015 and Rich People Problems in 2017. Kwan also published Lies and Weddings in 2024.
