‘Haircuts by mom’ “The first thing I am looking forward to is a haircut! It’s one of the things where I’ve not been able to overlook the associated risk and go to a professional. So much so that my poor 5-year-old has become a guinea pig with monthly-haircuts-by-mom. The second one is probably not surprising – I’m missing downtime on a beach with the soothing sound of waves and nothing else. Full disclosure – I tried recreating the environment with sound apps, but, who am I fooling?”
Beaches over mountains “My first holiday post-Covid would likely be to Radhanagar Beach in Andaman Islands. It’s a truly wonderful place. I’ve visited all sorts of beach locations around the world, but nothing beats the clear dazzling waters and white sands of Radhanagar Beach.”
“Cold fashioned” “Third Wave Coffee Roasters used to be my regular weekly haunt. I miss locking myself away in a corner there with my usual “Cold Fashioned” in hand, a string of calls and meetings lined up. It is definitely first on the list of places I want to go back to. As for shopping, the City Center, Dubai is an all-time favourite. It has something for everyone - including a massive aquarium to keep the little one happy while I’m busy with other things, and lovely cafes with views of the Burj.”

“Contrary to popular belief, WFH has been quite an expensive proposition. I bought a special table for creating a second office space in the house. Most people will relate to the need for this, to preserve marital bliss. I also got multiple routers, a mesh network, and UPS devices for each router.”
Green thumb “My new indulgence during this trying period has been gardening. This has had two benefits – keeping me busy as well as having an overall calming effect (much needed). Weekend mornings are spent digging, pruning, spraying, cleaning, planting and shopping for new trinkets for our little green space. It has been quite rewarding.”
New Year’s resolution “Unfortunately, fitness has been one area where I have not been very disciplined beyond morning walks. With over 10 hours spent at work, and all the extra chores the lockdown has brought, I usually run out of hours in the day. However, there is still hope for me – the plan is to commit to being disciplined, and go back to playing a sport at least thrice a week.”

“I decided to use this opportunity to improve my physical conditioning. I started cycling (after more than 40 years) inside my gated community from mid-April. I went from seven kilometres per ride to 20 kilometres by the end of June. Recently, I did a 52-kilometre ride to Chikka Tirupathi [on the outskirts of Bengaluru]. Cycling has had a huge impact, not just on my physical conditioning but also my confidence.”

“Startups are quite demanding, so I’ve never been able to work out more than three days a week, even when I trained for the Ironman Triathlon. So, when the lockdown was announced, I decided to challenge myself with a ‘consistency goal’ of accomplishing a workout a day. It began with coordinated workouts on Zoom with my friends and as restrictions eased, I started going for outdoor runs. There were days when there would be so many calls that I’d be seen climbing the building stairs at 10 pm. I now have more than 100 days of workouts under my belt and it has been the biggest stressbuster.”

“During the lockdown, I have managed to master single-leg burpees. It’s important to have a defined schedule and stick to it. I ensure that I block out some time during the day for exercise. I work out at home daily with various bodyweight exercises — I do pushups, burpees and air squats. I love doing CrossFit and high-intensity interval training that combines weightlifting, aerobics, powerlifting and gymnastics.”
