After several silhouettes, British automaker Arc has finally unveiled what it calls the ‘world’s most advanced electric motorcycle’. It is a hard-accelerating 193 kmph cafe racer, with an impressive 362 km range. It charges within 45 minute, has a matching haptic jacket and comes with a tag that justifies its price. But what makes it the ‘world’s most advanced’ is its human-machine interface (HMI) tech.
The Arc Vector comes with a projection-based headsup display (HUD) helmet named Arc Zenith, like the ones used in the latest fighter planes. Put it on, and it will make you feel like Iron Man with all its built-in tech. The helmet comes with an integral rear camera that relays its feed through the HUD and kicks in automatically if it detects anything in the driver’s blind spot.
Developed in collaboration with Hedon, the helmet also has a built-in voice control system and connects to WiFi. The intelligent ride-wear— Origin jacket — is an armoured shirt designed to protect the sensitive areas of the body. It includes audio-powered haptics that deliver nuanced sensory notifications and feedback. The $117,000 electric motorcycle runs on a 103-kilowatt (138HP) chain drive electric motor producing 85 Nm (63 lb-ft) of torque, but 397 Nm (293 lbft) at the output sprocket thanks to its internal gearing.
That’s a lot of torque for a motorcycle, but it is likely to be restrained by a single-speed transmission. The Vector can sprint from 0-97 kmph sprint in just 3.1 seconds. It uses front and rear carbon swingarms, custom-made dampers for smart handling and feedback, and Brembo brakes on BST wheels. The entire package tips the scale at 220 kg.
