Rajiv Talreja had failed as an entrepreneur for the first seven years, but later learnt the art of doing business.
A serial entrepreneur, author, speaker and one of India’s leading business coaches — this is probably just the tip of the iceberg for Rajiv Talreja.

Talreja is passionate, hardworking and ready to make a difference with his work. Having impacted 500,000 people in over five countries, he’s only getting started.

Talreja talks about the Business Growth Summit, an event where he will be a key speaker, his love for entrepreneurship and a lot more.

Can you tell us something about the Business Growth Summit (BGS)?
The Business Growth Summit has been carefully designed keeping in mind the needs and demands of today’s entrepreneurs no matter what stage of business they are in. I’ve seen many entrepreneurs struggle to convert their passion to profits, or they are unable to build a high-performance team. BGS has been curated to enable and equip entrepreneurs to build a successful and scalable business using proven techniques and systems. And we have a great line-up of speakers who come with their stories of struggle and success.

Why are you so passionate about working with entrepreneurs?
I failed as an entrepreneur for the first seven years. I set out on a journey to learn how to do business — the art, the science and the whole process of it. With this knowledge, I turned my business around and today have set up three successful businesses. I realised there are thousands of entrepreneurs who could use the knowledge that I gained. So, why not share this with them? Entrepreneurs truly deserve success.

What according to you is the real challenge that entrepreneurs face?
Entrepreneurs obsess over perfection too much. They think more, do less. Instead, it’s time to focus on progress instead of perfection. But most entrepreneurs are constantly fire-fighting where they get so ‘busy’ with the operational tasks that they move away from their true vision.

This brings us to the second real challenge of entrepreneurs — remembering your ‘why’. It’s easy to forget why you started your business. But we are nothing without our business, which we started to make a difference and solve a problem. We need to keep reminding ourselves of that. Because I truly believe it will lead us back to where it began.

One of the speakers at the Business Growth Summit this year is Dr John Demartini.

What will be the biggest takeaway for an entrepreneur from BGS?

The Business Growth Summit has been designed to help entrepreneurs step outside their comfort zone and expand their vision and business acumen. Many times, I find that entrepreneurs have the big idea for business but lack the vision to scale. A business needs an idea, along with a vision, to scale. Understanding the strategies and real-life skills that they can apply will be the big takeaway.

As a speaker, what are you most looking forward to?
I love working and meeting entrepreneurs. So, I’m personally looking forward to interacting with varying entrepreneurs, from solopreneurs to those who are bustling with new business ideas. Through BGS , I want entrepreneurs to realise two things: Progress > Perfect Success is Shabby Success is not a straight line that comes with a to-do list. It involves a lot of trial and error, failing, picking yourself up and consistently walking towards your goal. So, it involves systems, skills, strategies and is based on pure science, which I’m really looking forward to sharing with the room.

But in many big companies, employers offer various training programmes to help their employees improve and fine-tune their skills. These programs are usually free, but go under the radar simply because employees are unaware. So, keep up to date with what your company is doing, not just in your own team, but across sections. Your bosses will then know you’re keen to push yourself and are up for the challenge.

Write down your current skill set and make a note of what you would like to add to it. Whether it’s communication, management or customer service, seeking out skills will help you retain and further your career. While seminars and web series are great for learning softer skills, when it comes to technical skills, find a course you can do. Seek a professional course online or after-office hours to help you add a specialised certification to your resume. These usually take only a few months.
