Boat Rockerz 640 review: The headphones offer premium quality sound at an affordable price

The strong point of the headphones is its battery life.

A single charge delivered 10+ hours of battery life at 90% volume level which is impressive.
Price: Rs 2,999
Specs: On ear design, 40mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.0, 300mAh battery

Boat Rockerz range of headphones are known for their premium quality sound output at a pocket friendly price. The latest in the range is the Boat Rockerz 640 - one of the most expensive headphones in this product range.

These are on the ear headphones with a good amount of cushioning on the earpads as well as on the headband. We liked the foldable design as it makes them easy to store while travelling. What sets this headphone apart from the usual design is the LED light ring on the earcups. The white coloured light is not there only for style - it also indicated the power on/off status and Bluetooth pairing mode. One of the good things done by Boat is providing the option to switch off the LED light if required - most other headphones that offer such lighting don't give you the option to switch it off. The right earcup also houses the volume buttons and the microUSB charging port. For the price, its odd that Boat did not provide any sort of water/sweat resistance. Another thing that we didn't like was the omission of aux port to use the headphone in wired mode if the battery runs out.

Sound quality from the Rockerz 640 is what we have come to expect from boat audio products over the years. You get audio with good clarity and deep bass - this makes the headphones ideal for Indian audience who prefers bass heavy music. However, keep in mind that the soundstage is not very wide: a typical issue with most budget headphones. The headphones have got large 40mm drivers but much to our surprise, the maximum volume level didn't get unbearably loud. In fact, we ended up using the headphones mostly between 90-100% volume level. The fact that there is no passive noise isolation/cancellation due to the on-ear design also leads to a fair amount of audio leak leading to lower overall volume.

The strong point of the headphones is its battery life. A single charge delivered 10+ hours of battery life at 90% volume level which is impressive. We also liked that Boat has used Bluetooth 5.0 on these headphones which provides better range and almost zero delay making it great to use with streaming video platforms as there is no audio delay issue. What we did not like was the built-in microphone - it has poor sensitivity. We tried it multiple times for voice calls and every time it failed - the person on the other end could not hear our sound unless we spoke very loudly.

At Rs 2,999, while the Rockerz 640 delivers on the sound and battery, it also suffers from issues in volume level and microphone. We would recommend going for the Boat Rockerz 600 instead or considering the JBL T460BT headphones instead.

While the builtin camera of your smartphone is great for taking photos, it tends to suffer from the limitations of its small sensor. The DxO One is a good peripheral to overcome that for your iPhone and iPad with WiFi. Unlike add-on lenses, the DxO One is a standalone camera with its own lens and sensor. It can capture details even in low light and take impressive portraits with soft bokeh. The camera can even shoot in RAW.
