The feat comes less than a decade after their debut in 2016. From chart-topping hits to sold-out world tours, BLACKPINK’s journey has been nothing short of phenomenal.
BLACKPINK scripts history
Crossing 100 million subscribers is no small feat. The Red Diamond Creator Award is one of YouTube’s rarest honours, awarded to only a handful of global creators. Popular names like PewDiePie, MrBeast, T-Series and WWE are among those who have previously received it. For BLACKPINK, this milestone is a reflection of their massive global fanbase, known as BLINKs. The group’s YouTube channel has amassed more than 41 billion total views. Members Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé recently took to social media and shared a heartfelt video message to celebrate the achievement. Speaking in both Korean and English, they expressed deep gratitude to their fans for listening to their music and standing by them throughout their journey. The members acknowledged that reaching 100 million subscribers felt surreal and credited BLINKs for making it possible.
The Red Diamond Play Button itself symbolises exclusivity. Featuring a dark red crystal play icon, the award represents one of the highest milestones a creator can achieve on the platform. For BLACKPINK, it is another addition to their long list of records.
From debut to global dominance: BLACKPINK's journey
BLACKPINK debuted on August 8, 2016, under YG Entertainment with their single album Square One. Songs like Whistle and Boombayah immediately gained traction. Their 2018 hit DDU-DU DDU-DU became a global sensation, breaking multiple YouTube records and expanding their international reach. Over the years, albums such as THE ALBUM and BORN PINK strengthened their position as one of the world’s leading girl groups. Their performance at Coachella further made their global appeal.
Despite their collective success, each member has also built a strong solo career. Jennie’s SOLO, Lisa’s LALISA and individual music ventures by Jisoo and Rosé have all performed exceptionally well. Yet, even with thriving individual identities, their group activities continue to break records.
In a 2022 interview with Rolling Stone, the members have emphasised that despite global fame, they see themselves as ordinary individuals. Jisoo once talked about that while their social status may have changed, she still feels like the same person who trained during her school years. Jennie similarly noted that beyond influence and fame, they value simple conversations about pets, food and daily life.
Most recently, BLACKPINK wrapped up their DEADLINE World Tour, performing for thousands of fans across continents. Now, anticipation is building for their third mini album, set to release on February 27. With another comeback on the horizon and a historic YouTube record under their belt, BLACKPINK’s journey appears far from over.
