Beyoncé has 80,000 bees at home. American singer reveals how beekeeping helps her daughters

Beyoncé is currently making waves on the internet as her 2006 album B’Day returns to the top of the charts. The American singer has scored her sixth No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, with B’Day debuting at No. 1 on the list dated September 19. The album received an expanded deluxe edition on September 4 to mark its 20th anniversary, helping it return to the spotlight.

But music is not the only area where Beyoncé has made headlines. The Grammy-winning singer has also spoken about an unusual hobby at home, beekeeping. In a 2020 interview with British Vogue, she revealed that she had two beehives at home, housing around 80,000 bees.

Beyoncé’s life away from the stage includes an unexpected connection with bees. During her conversation with British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, the singer revealed that she had two actual beehives at home.


According to Beyoncé, the hives were home to roughly 80,000 bees. The setup was also productive, with the singer saying that her bees made hundreds of jars of honey every year.



For someone better known for music, performances and fashion, beekeeping may seem like an unusual interest. However, Beyoncé said the hives had a personal reason behind them and were not simply a celebrity hobby.

The singer explained, "I started the beehives because my daughters, Blue and Rumi, both have terrible allergies, and honey has countless healing properties."

Why did Beyoncé start beekeeping?

Beyoncé has often spoken about the importance of family, and her beekeeping hobby was also connected to her children. She explained that she wanted to have honey available at home because of her daughters’ allergies.

She also revealed that she was working towards creating a hemp and honey farm. At the time, she even said that she had beehives on the roof of her home.

The singer's interests during the COVID-19 lockdown also extended to creating personal routines inspired by earlier generations. She said she had started incorporating honey and hemp-derived CBD into some of these rituals as part of her approach to relaxation and wellness.



Along with being a singer, performer, fashion entrepreneur and cultural figure, she had also taken on the role of a beekeeper.

Years after that interview, Beyoncé is back in the headlines for another reason, this time because of her music.
