Benelli launches classic scrambler Leoncino 500 at Rs 4.79 lakh

The company is pitching it as 'India's most affordable parallel-twin scrambler'.

NEW DELHI: A day after announcing its plans to launch a 400cc cruiser motorcycle, Italian motorcycle manufacturer Benelli India has unveiled the Leoncino 500 with classic scrambler design at 4.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The company is pitching it as 'India's most affordable parallel-twin scrambler'.

The front fender displays the 'Lion of Pesaro' on to the headlamp. The motorcycle features LED technology, a DOHC, twin-cylinder four-stroke, liquid-cooled. Powered by 500cc engine, the company claims it produces a maximum power output of 47.5PS at 8500rpm, and maximum torque of 46Nm at 6000rpm. The 8-valve motor is mated to a slick shifting 6-speed gearbox. The steel trellis frame ensures maximum versatility and manoeuvrability.

Commenting on the Leoncino, Vikas Jhabakh, MD of Benelli India, said, “The Leoncino combines tradition and passion with contemporary style, innovation and performance. The modern version of the Leoncino is a pure makeover of the original model and is a tribute to a legend of Italian motorcycling that largely contributed to the history of the brand, which today finds its identity in the modern world.”

Leoncino's street version comes with 17-inch alloy wheels. The tubeless Pirelli tyres include a 120/70-ZR17 section tyre at the front, 160/60-ZR17 section tyre at the rear, and guaranteeing stability and performance in every condition. The front suspension features an upside-down 50mm fork, while the rear is controlled by a laterally mounted, rebound and pre-load adjustable shock absorber. Brakes include a radially mounted 4-piston brake calipers gripping 320mm discs up front. The rear is taken care of by a single piston floating caliper with a 260mm disc.

Leoncino can be booked for a nominal price of Rs 10,000 at a nearest dealership or on Benelli's official website (www.india.benelli.com). The vehicle comes with a '5-Year Unlimited Kilometer Warranty'. The new model is available in two colour variants – Leoncino Red and Steel Gray.

Following the government's guideline to focus on electric vehicle, the bike company is planning to explore the EV opportunity in the India.

The motorcycle company plans to launch two 250cc engine motorcycles in October, priced upwards of Rs 2.5 lakh. It is also considering scooters with engine capacities between 150cc and 250cc for the Indian market.
